Securing Trust: The Transition to Digital Seafarer Credentials

Exploring how maritime can build a trusted, interoperable digital credential ecosystem for seafarers.

Commissioned by Maritime Passport

Wednesday 28th October 9am GMT

Seafarer identity and credentials sit at the centre of a chain that runs from flag states, training providers and medical practitioners, through crewing and manning teams, to masters, port inspectors and regulators. Today, that chain still runs on manual entry, PDFs and email.

Missing, expired or fraudulent certificates aren't just an administrative headache. They create delay, safety risk and compliance exposure for everyone downstream who relies on that credential being valid.

We have partnered with Maritime Passport on a new research report exploring how seafarer credentials are managed today, where the current system creates delay and risk, and what a better digital model, one that works for issuers, verifiers and seafarers alike, could look like.

This webinar launches our new report, Securing Trust: The Transition to Digital Seafarer Credentials. Exploring how maritime can build a trusted, interoperable digital credential ecosystem for seafarers, examining what actually makes a digital credential trustworthy, and the practical path towards common standards without waiting for one global system.

Joined by a panel of experts, we'll discuss the findings and what they mean for flag states, issuers, crewing teams and seafarers looking to cut verification delays, reduce compliance risk, and build a credentialing system that works for everyone in the chain.

What you'll discover in this one-hour session:

  • Where today's seafarer credentialing system creates delay and risk, for crewing teams, masters, inspectors, regulators and seafarers alike.
  • What actually makes a digital credential trustworthy, beyond simply digitising a paper certificate, and why issuer authority, seafarer control and system compatibility all matter.
  • The tangible benefits digital credentials could unlock, from faster inspections and smoother recruitment to greater seafarer mobility.
  • How flag states, issuers and seafarers can each retain the right role and control as credentialing moves online.
  • Practical considerations for moving towards common rules and pilot programmes, allowing paper and digital credentials to coexist as adoption grows.

Webinar attendees will receive early access to the full report.
